Latency is not the sum of every span.

Tracepath separates wall time from span duration and computes direct-child overlap before estimating exclusive time. It also flags missing parents, cycles, and child spans that escape their parent boundary instead of treating every waterfall as trustworthy.

Exclusive time subtracts the union of direct-child intervals, so overlapping children are not double-counted. This is a compact trace-analysis model, not a full causal critical-path implementation or OpenTelemetry collector. Source and tests ↗
